Jubal understands institutions, law, journalism, sex, money, politics, and human vanity, and therefore becomes the bridge between Mike's radically alien worldview and ordinary society. The question: is Jubal teaching Mike how to become human, or teaching humanity how to consume Mike?

[Use when]

A radical figure is being made palatable by a sophisticated operator: the editor behind the visionary.

[Why it matters]

Every prophet needs a translator, and the translator always has an agenda. Jubal does not just interpret Mike, he packages him: negotiates with the state, manages the press, frames the theology. The interpreter decides which parts of the alien message are legible and which are edited out. Watch the interpreter, not the prophet, if you want to know what the movement will actually become.
