After a short period of time—up to thirty or even sixty seconds—you will swallow, yawn, or sigh. This is a sign of relaxation in your autonomic nervous system.

[Use when]

Someone is stuck in stress or shutdown and needs a two-minute reset they can do on the floor.

[Why it matters]

The whole method in under two minutes: interlace your fingers behind your head, keep the head still, move only your eyes — right until the sigh, then left until the sigh. "The Basic Exercise is effective, easy to learn, and easy to do, and takes less than two minutes to complete." The eye movement works through a direct neurological connection between the eight suboccipital muscles and the muscles that move the eyeballs; relaxing them lets C1 and C2 settle back into place, easing pressure on the vertebral arteries and restoring blood flow to the brainstem where the five social-engagement nerves originate. The swallow, yawn, or sigh is the observable marker that the state actually shifted — no faith required.
