Distribution follows a power law of its own: one method will be far more powerful than every other for any given business. So the kitchen-sink approach — a few salespeople, some ads, a viral feature bolted on as an afterthought — never works. "Most businesses get zero distribution channels to work: poor sales rather than bad product is the most common cause of failure. If you can get just one distribution channel to work, you have a great business. If you try for several but don't nail one, you're finished."

[Use when]

A launch plan lists five acquisition channels and none of them is owned; allocating the marketing budget.

[Why it matters]

Turns "do marketing" from a checklist into a search problem: find the single channel that works and pour everything into it. The unit economics decide which channel is even viable — customer lifetime value must exceed customer acquisition cost, which rules out most channels for most products before you start.
