Get your pre-decided outcome adopted by having a trusted second reject the other options and introduce your plan as a fresh third idea, so it reaches the room as discovery, not as your will.

— In our words · Source: Paradise Lost (John Milton)

[Use when]

A decision that was clearly already made gets presented as an open, brand-new idea by someone other than the decider — and you want to see whose plan it actually is.

[Why it matters]

Beelzebub rises "with grave aspect," the picture of deliberation, dismisses both war and peace as traps, then produces the "new" idea: another world, "some new race, called Man" — attack God's newest creation instead of God himself. Then the narrator breaks the fourth wall: this counsel was "first devised by Satan, and in part proposed." The laundered decision: the real author stays silent, the trusted deputy presents it, and the room votes for it as if it had just been invented.
