BUDDHIST MEDITATION AND TRAUMA THERAPY

Trauma treatment is mainstream now, and this maps an underexplored bridge between contemplative practice and clinical trauma work — with practitioners on both sides.

The U.S. scholarly dialogue between Buddhism and trauma therapy has run between Western Vipassana Movement teachers (IMS, Spirit Rock, MBSR, MBCT, Mindful Self Compassion) and trauma clinicians (Briere, Scott, Siegel, Levine) — and it has left out the Goenka Vipassana tradition; the dissertation mutually correlates the two fields and builds a prototypical Buddhist-counseling model using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as its contemplative matrix.

Why it matters

Trauma treatment is mainstream now, and this maps an underexplored bridge between contemplative practice and clinical trauma work — with practitioners on both sides.

Use when: Check who's not in the room — the dialogue everyone cites may be missing the tradition that matters most.
