Coast Guard Maritime Security in the Underwater Domain

Ports and waterways are guarded on the surface while the water column below goes unwatched — an early institutional argument for underwater domain awareness, now a live undersea-infrastructure concern.

The Coast Guard runs maritime domain awareness for surface and air but has almost nothing for the underwater domain — a capability-gap analysis plus analysis of alternatives found the gap is real, the technology to close it has matured, and the moment to procure is now.

Why it matters

Ports and waterways are guarded on the surface while the water column below goes unwatched — an early institutional argument for underwater domain awareness, now a live undersea-infrastructure concern.

Use when: Every perimeter has a third dimension nobody budgets for — name it before an adversary uses it.
