Open Receptacles: Imagination in Continental and Process Thought, and the Opening of Religious Pluralism

A transferable move — when a method can only produce one winner, the problem is the method's ontology, not the question; adding imagination (aesthetics) back into reasoning changes what counts as true.

Religious pluralism looks impossible when reason is restricted to logic alone — logic forces a single outcome and hierarchizes or excludes faiths that don't fit its criteria; but with imagination (logic plus aesthetics, via Whitehead's immanence and creativity) admitted as a method, pluralism becomes integral to truth formation, religious experience, and a deeper understanding of the Divine.

Why it matters

A transferable move — when a method can only produce one winner, the problem is the method's ontology, not the question; adding imagination (aesthetics) back into reasoning changes what counts as true.

Use when: If your method admits only one right answer, it will manufacture losers — expand the method before you condemn the question.
