The Use of Autonomous Systems in Emergency Medical Services: Bridging Human Intelligence and Technology

A 2015 thesis predicted the exact moment we're in — responders now routinely working around driverless cars, delivery robots, and autonomous trucks — and said preparation, not resistance, is the only move.

EMS organizations must prepare twice for autonomous systems — response protocols for when responders encounter them on-scene, and active adoption to improve service — and the SWOT of ignoring them found weaknesses in efficiency and safety rated high while strengths were "nonexistent."

Why it matters

A 2015 thesis predicted the exact moment we're in — responders now routinely working around driverless cars, delivery robots, and autonomous trucks — and said preparation, not resistance, is the only move.

Use when: You don't get to opt out of a technology by ignoring it — you only forfeit your say in how it changes your work.
