Gully Foyle is my name And Terra is my nation. Deep space is my dwelling place, The stars my destination.

[Use when]

You need a closing epitaph for a transformed character: a short, chantable self-definition that compresses identity, origin, and purpose into one breath.

[Why it matters]

The novel's closing jingle is Foyle's final self-definition, stripped of the tiger, the revenge, and the mask: a name, a nation, a dwelling place, a destination. After 170 days dying, a transformation, a crusade, and an apotheosis, Bester ends on a nursery rhyme that contains the whole arc. The cipher became the creature who could say exactly who he is and where he's going, and the destination is everything.
