Prajapati creates living beings, but they come out as an undifferentiated clump, clinging together. So he enters them twice: with form (rūpa) — "form is Prajapati" — and with name (nāma) — "name is Prajapati." Differentiation is a two-stroke act: give it a shape, give it a name, and only then is it a distinct thing. The social corollary is stated outright: "even two enemies, meeting, if they call each other by name, become friends." Naming isn't labeling — it's a peacemaking technology that turns the other from a mass into a person. (TB 2.2.7)

[Use when]

Use when something feels like an undifferentiated clump — a conflict, a project, a market.

[Why it matters]

Every fuzzy problem gets solvable the moment you separate its shape from its name: what does it look like, what do we call it. And the enemy line is a whole diplomacy course in one sentence.
