Prajapati creates Indra as the gods' younger brother and sends him to rule them: "Go, be the overlord of these gods." The gods refuse him flatly: "Who are you? We are better than you." Indra doesn't argue seniority and doesn't fight — he goes to the sun, takes its splendor, has it made into a golden ornament fastened on him, and returns as overlord. Authority isn't granted by the incumbents; it's seized as visible, undeniable splendor. "Whoever knows this becomes overlord among his equals." Asked "who are you?", the answer is that "Ka — Who? — is the name of Prajapati" itself. (TB 2.2.10)

[Use when]

Use when you're the junior in the room and the seniors just told you who you are.

[Why it matters]

When the room won't grant you standing, don't debate the room — go get the thing that makes standing irrelevant, and wear it where everyone can see.
