God! "Thou couldst save them by opening their eyes (33). But no: 'tis for the humans of a race divine To discern Error and to see the Truth (34). Nature serves them (35). Thou who fathomed it, O wise and happy man, rest in its haven. — *The Golden Verses of Pythagoras*, Perfection, trans. Nayan Louise Redfield (1917), p. 121. **Surface Gloss:** Father Zeus could free all humans from their misery simply by showing them what kind of *daimon* they are using; yet humans must take courage themselves, because their lineage is divine and sacred Nature reveals everything to them. **The Anti-Bailout Principle:** Stop waiting for an external authority to rescue you from your blind spots. Because you possess the native cognitive hardware ("a race divine") and live inside an environment that constantly broadcasts feedback ("Nature reveals each thing"), a top-down bailout would violate your agency. Open your own eyes and read the telemetry.

[Why it matters]

Father Zeus could free all humans from their misery simply by showing them what kind of *daimon* they are using; yet humans must take courage themselves, because their lineage is divine and sacred Nature reveals everything to them. Here d'Olivet's French (*Mais non: c'est aux humains...*) slightly reshapes the facing Greek (p. 120) while preserving its core tension. In the Greek, the poet cries out: *Zeu pater* ("Father Zeus, either you would free all men from many evils, or show to all what sort of *daimon* they employ!"). Immediately, the poet answers his own prayer: *Alla sy tharsei, epei theion genos esti brotoisin* ("But take courage yourself! For mortals are of a divine race, to whom sacred Nature brings forth and reveals each thing"). In the Pythagorean system, the *daimon* is both the indwelling rational soul-principle and the guardian allotment of a human life. Zeus does not magically override human blindness because humans already possess **ontological kinship with the divine** (*theion genos*), and *hierē physis* (sacred Nature) is an open book continuously displaying her ratios to anyone willing to do the purifying work. [INTERPRETATION: PRISCA THEOLOGIA / ESOTERIC] For Marsilio Ficino and Pico della Mirandola, this passage was the jewel of pagan theology: the affirmation of human *theosis* through knowledge and will. The Greek phrase "what sort of *daimon* they employ (*hoiōi tōi daimoni chrōntai*)" was read through Plato's *Timaeus* (90a), where God gives each person the sovereign part of the soul as their *daimon*. Mortals suffer only because they do not realize they are operating a divine vehicle. Furthermore, "Sacred Nature reveals each thing" grounded the Renaissance doctrine of the **Book of Nature**: the physical cosmos is a living theophany of divine signatures waiting to be read by the awakened child of God.
