Mike learns English, then creates a vocabulary: Thou art God, grok, water brother. Once people adopt the vocabulary, they begin seeing reality through it. The book's core doctrine begins as a word Mike seizes in a living room, and the word remakes a movement.

[Use when]

Anyone, guru, founder, pundit, claims to speak from outside all ideology while introducing a proprietary vocabulary.

[Why it matters]

The claim I have no assumptions is itself the most powerful assumption: it exempts the speaker from the skepticism applied to everyone else. Watch what happens when a charismatic figure introduces a proprietary vocabulary: adopt the words and you have adopted the world. The test is simple, who defined the terms of the conversation, and what can you no longer say inside them?
