You don't refute a ruling story by importing outside facts; you quote it faithfully and ask the dumb literal questions it cannot survive. Read the founding document with the naivety it forbids: if God asks 'Adam, where are you?', the all-knowing creator lacks foreknowledge; if God says 'let us cast him out, lest he eat of the tree of life and live forever,' the creator fears rivals and hoards immortality. 'Surely, he has shown himself to be a malicious grudger!'

[Use when]

Use when analyzing a policy, contract, or doctrine whose benevolence everyone assumes. Use when you must expose hypocrisy without adding your own spin. Use when a sacred text or founding myth is being used to justify coercion.

[Why it matters]

Defenders of any canon depend on you importing its intended, sympathetic meaning. Refuse the sympathetic reading — ask 'what would this character be, if this sentence were true and taken literally?' — and the authority's own words become evidence against it. One text, two readings, opposite verdicts. This is how you dethrone a narrative everyone has been trained to read charitably.
